'Feel closer to mom': Janhvi on working in South cinema
Actor Janhvi Kapoor, known for her roles in Bollywood films such as Dhadak, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, and Mili, is preparing to make her Telugu cinema debut with Devara, co-starring Jr NTR. Kapoor has also secured a role in another untitled Telugu film alongside Ram Charan. In a conversation with PTI, Kapoor expressed that working in South Indian cinema makes her feel closer to her late mother, the legendary actor Sridevi.
Kapoor feels at home on South Indian film sets
Kapoor shared her feelings about her new ventures, stating, "Somehow it makes me feel closer to my mom, to be in that environment, as well as to hear and speak in that language." "It just felt like it was the right time, I felt I was gravitating towards it." "Mom has such a history with the families of NTR sir and Ram Charan sir, it's my honor that I'm able to work with both these extremely talented actors."
The actor expressed admiration for South Indian cinema
Kapoor revealed her admiration for South Indian cinema and its actors, saying, "I've always been a fan of their cinema. I love their conviction with which they make films and the charisma that the actors hold." She grew up watching Tamil and Telugu films, largely due to her producer-father Boney Kapoor's interest in remaking South Indian movies. "There's a specific flavour to Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam cinema; they are all so individual."
Kapoor's latest release is winning hearts
Kapoor's most recent film, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, which also stars Rajkummar Rao, was released in theaters on May 31. The film was directed by Sharan Sharma and produced by Dharma Productions. Despite tmixed response from critics, the film has been performing well at the box office. It is Kapoor's second project with both Sharma and Rao after Gunjan Saxena and Roohi, respectively.
