Netflix has dropped the first teaser for the much-awaited second season of its hit series Squid Game. The 30-second clip showcases a group of faceless players dressed in green tracksuits, with the numbers on their jackets culminating in Seong Gi-hun's #456. Lee Jung-jae, who plays Gi-hun, is set to return after emerging as the sole survivor in the first season.

The upcoming season of Squid Game is set three years after Gi-hun's victory. Contrary to his initial plan of moving to the United States, he returns with a renewed determination and re-enters the deadly survival game. This time, he will be pitted against a fresh batch of participants, all vying for the grand prize of 45.6B won.
Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk reveals Gi-hun's character transformation
In a conversation with Deadline, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that Season 2 will portray Gi-hun as a more serious character seeking revenge. Dong-hyuk made history with the first season as the first Asian to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Jung-jae also became the first Asian man to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
'Squid Game' Season 2 release date and future plans
Netflix has announced that the second season of Squid Game will premiere on December 26. The streaming giant also confirmed last month that a third and final season is in the pipeline for a 2025 release. The first season of Squid Game, which premiered in 2021, shattered records by becoming Netflix's most-watched series ever, garnering a staggering 1.65B views within its first 28 days.
