'Sooryavanshi' remains Netflix's top five most-watched film months after release
Let's admit, Sooryavanshi is Akshay Kumar's only bonafide blockbuster in recent times. The cop drama had hit theaters on November 5 last year and collected close to Rs. 295cr (worldwide), after which it hit Netflix on December 3. Since then, the Rohit Shetty-directorial has remained in the top five of Netflix's list of the most-watched films every week, barring two weeks in February.
Why does this story matter?
Sooryavanshi had a lot riding on it because: A) It was the fourth film in Shetty's copverse, but with a new actor as the lead police officer. So, the acceptance level was a major factor here. B) Makers invested a huge Rs. 160cr in it. C) It was one of the first releases after the second COVID-19 wave started subsiding, so expectations were high.

On Thursday, Netflix India posted two top 10 lists of this week, one for the shows and another for the movies. In the latter, Sooryavanshi sits in fourth place. And, quick background research revealed the film has always been in the top five for the past three months, except for two weeks. It, in fact, topped this list in its initial two weeks, too.

The other movies featured in this week's top five most-watched movies list are Badhaai Do, which occupies the #1 position, followed by The Adam Project and Black Crab. After Sooryavanshi, the Hollywood film Zombieland: Double Tap rounds up the top five. Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Rescued by Ruby, Red Notice, Shyam Singha Roy, and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui complete the top 10 list.

When it comes to the top 10 shows this week on Netflix, Madhuri Dixit Nene's OTT debut The Fame Game sits in the numero uno position. All of Us Are Dead, Business Proposal, Eternally Confused and Eager for Love, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Inventing Anna, The Last Kingdom, Forecasting Love and Weather, and Squid Game form the top 10.
