Sony plans to release two Marvel movies in 2020
Sony is stepping up its game in the superhero universe as its recent Tom Hardy starring Venom movie has shown. Now they have outlined their future plans of releasing two Marvel movies in 2020. In all fairness, 2020 is a long way off, but Sony has outlined that a new Spider-Man related film will release on July 10, 2020 while they plan to release a sequel on October 2, 2020. Notably, both the projects are untitled as of now.
All about the new upcoming movie
Although details remain unspecified, the movie coming out in July is likely to be called Morbius starring Jared Leto. It is going to be directed by Daniel Espinosa who is known for making the Denzel Washington starring CIA thriller Safe House. Notably, Leto's role will see him join a list of illustrious actors who have acted in both DC and Marvel movies.
Who is Morbius, the character of Sony's upcoming movie?
Michael Morbius first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man, the 1971 comic. He was introduced as a biologist whose attempts to cure his rare blood disease, caused him to try and fuse it with vampire DNA which in turn left him with the vampiric need to survive on others' blood. Morbius started as a villain but his character arc evolved to that of an anti-hero.
What will Sony's sequel be about?
The October sequel will most likely see Tom Hardy reprise his role as Venom or Eddie Brock. Hardy's first Venom movie which saw journalist Brock synthesize with the alien symbiote Venom, released around October 2018. It would make sense for the sequel to release two years later at the same time. We hope the sequel introduces Woody Harrelson's Carnage, which the Venom movie teased.

As Sony keeps building up the Spider-Man universe, fans have asked whether we might see Tom Holland's Spider-Man in these movies. While the answer is a 'no' as of now, Sony is open to the possibility which is why they made a PG-13 Venom movie.
