Sonu Sood launches charity club in Kolkata: Details here
What's the story
Bollywood actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has established the Sonu Sood Charity Club (SSCC) in Kolkata.
The SSCC is an extension of the Sood Charity Foundation (SCF) and intends to form local communities to address the issues of the underprivileged in their localities.
This is the fifth branch of SSCC after it was launched in Dewas, Raipur, Bhilai, and Solapur.
Local support
Sood emphasized the need for local charity clubs
According to Mid-Day, Sood emphasized the importance of local charity clubs.
He said, "SCF is helping people across the country, but there are many from the economically challenged section of society who cannot reach out to us or get cheated by scammers who promise them financial help, jobs, or educational or medical assistance."
"That's why we thought of these clubs that are accessible to the needy."
Volunteer work
SSCC volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the needy
Each SSCC club is manned by volunteers chosen by SCF members themselves.
The Kolkata SSCC has 50 volunteers at present, who are tasked with assessing cases brought to them by those in need.
After conducting background checks and suggesting possible solutions, they send the cases to SCF for implementation.
The support includes financial aid for education, medical treatment, and other needs.
Volunteer selection
Sood emphasized the careful selection of volunteers for SSCC
Sood emphasized the need to select SSCC volunteers carefully, "The right people with the right background are first identified."
"The idea is to give them responsibility so that they feel they're doing good on their own as they come up with strategies, suggest them to the SCF, and then make it happen."
On the personal front, Sood faced a tough time as his wife, Sonali Sood, was injured in an accident on Tuesday, but now she is out of danger.
