    What's the story

In a shocking turn of events, singer Sonu Nigam and two BJP MLAs namely Ram Kadam and Ashish Shelar, have been issued advisory of threat.

According to intelligence reports, terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba is planning the assassination of the singer.

Nigam stirred a controversy last year when he spoke against 'forced religiousness' and expressed his displeasure on azaan being played on loudspeakers.

    Fight with 'fundamentalism'

Reportedly, the Mumbai police has been alerted by the Maharashtra Intelligence Department.

The terrorist outfit, reportedly, plans to kill Sonu Nigam at a public place or an event or a promotional activity.

Following the threats, the police have reportedly become extra cautious, and are doing all that they can to keep Nigam safe.

    The Azaan Row

    Sonu Nigam vs forced religiousness

Last year, Sonu Nigam found himself at the centre of a controversy when he complained about azaan being played on loudspeakers.

After this, a Bengal Muslim leader issued a fatwa of Rs. 10 lakh to anyone who would shave Sonu Nigam's head.

Quite to everyone's surprise, the singer himself shaved his head, calling the bluff of the cleric.

    Quote

    'It's not only azaan'

"Main Jagran me gaata tha, par ab nahi gaata. Maybe because they can't afford me now. Also, I am against the usage of speakers in any kind of religious practice, be it for prayers in temples, gurudwaras or mosques," Nigam had said in an interview.
