'Sonic Hedgehog 3' trailer: Sonic-Robotnik unite against Keanu Reeves's Shadow
The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released by Paramount Pictures on Tuesday, following its initial reveal at CinemaCon in April. The film is the third installment in the SEGA video game-inspired franchise and will see Ben Schwartz reprise his role as the eponymous blue speedster. Schwartz's Sonic will join forces with his allies Knuckles, Tails, Tom, and Maddie to confront the new menace of Shadow the Hedgehog.
Keanu Reeves voices Shadow the Hedgehog
The trailer provides a glimpse of Sonic's comeback as he prepares to battle another formidable speedster, Shadow, who is revealed to be voiced by Keanu Reeves. The clip also showcases the return of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, hinting at another comedic performance from the renowned actor. The trailer teases a collaboration between Sonic's team and Eggman (and Agent Stone), introducing us to one of Eggman's relatives, presumably Gerald Robotnik, given his connection to Shadow's storyline in the games.

Reeves's casting confirmed after initial rumors
Reeves's casting was first rumored in April but was only recently confirmed. Before this, there were speculations that Hayden Christensen, famous for his role as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels and Obi-Wan show, would be cast, but this did not come to fruition. Other returning cast members include Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba reprising their roles as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles respectively.
'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' follows 2022's sequel
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a continuation of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which was released in 2022. In the interim, a Knuckles show premiered on Paramount+, which received mixed reviews from fans. While it garnered fairly positive reviews, many criticized it for not featuring enough of Knuckles and focusing too much on the human cast created for this version of the Sonic universe.
