'Dexter' revival to make up for Season 8 finale's disappointment
A lot of expectations are riding on the shoulders of the revived Dexter team this time as the finale of the last season left fans highly disappointed. Sources say the ninth season of this crime thriller won't unravel a new arc like every season, but will rather be a 10-hour long attempt to cement the loopholes left in Season 8 finale.
Dexter was decided to be killed, but Showtime refused
Dexter is a forensic analyst as well as a vigilante serial killer. This was too conspicuous not to be avenged, which is why original showrunner Clyde Phillips wanted to kill off the protagonist during the finale. However, Showtime couldn't risk compromising the "relationship" Dexter had with its fans and so, didn't kill him. This backfired and became a major reason why Dexter finale failed.
Hall feels this is the right time for show revival
Michael C. Hall, who's the protagonist, said heavy changes in the writing and production stuff as the show progressed led to a lack of "a cohesive narrative." He added that Phillips, the showrunner for the first four seasons, is returning. Sharing his excitement, Hall said, "I always thought maybe time will reveal itself when it's the right time to do it and it did."
'It was a less than satisfying ending for people'
Establishing the reason behind the reboot, Hall said, "The appetite for the reboot is a way facilitated by the fact that it was a less than satisfying ending for people." This acknowledgement and the script will make viewers enjoy the "10-hour movie," feels the 50-year-old. The series will also star actor like Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah, David Magidoff, and Jack Alcott.
'Thor: Ragnarok's Surtur will face your favorite Dexter this time
Meanwhile, veteran actor Clancy Brown has been roped in to play the antagonist of this series. He will portray the unofficial mayor of Iron Lake, Kurt Caldwell. Caldwell and Morgan's fate will collide in this fictional New York small town, with production based in Massachusetts. The team plans to wrap the revival season up as soon as possible, and premiere it sometime around October.
