Shilpa Shinde, who rose to fame with her stint as Angoori Bhabhi in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain, is now venturing into politics. The television actress joined Congress yesterday in the presence of Mumbai Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam. While her political debut surprised everyone, Shilpa is excited about her new journey. She said that she took the decision to "do something for the people."

"Congress had run the country for ages. This is why I decided to join it. Today, the country is in dire need of a change and only Congress can bring about this change," she said.

Interestingly, Shilpa's family has a long association with Congress. Her father Satyadev Shinde, who passed away in 2013 was a judge in Mumbai High Court, and was associated with Congress. "My father was also in Congress. He was a good friend of Sharad Pawar and Sushil Kumar Shinde," Shilpa asserted. Looks like Shilpa is following her father's footsteps!
