'Masoom 2': Shekhar Kapur's 'performance-oriented' drama to begin filming soon
What's the story
Celebrated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who was recently honored with the Padma Bhushan, is all set to begin shooting for his next film, Masoom: The Next Generation.
The movie is a sequel to his 1983 hit Masoom, but not a direct continuation.
The original cast members Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah will be joined by Manoj Bajpayee and Nithya Menen in this Mumbai-set sequel.
Inspiration
Kapur's decade-long journey to 'Masoom: The Next Generation'
Kapur revealed that he started writing the sequel a decade ago.
He told Mid-Day, "I started writing this film a decade ago, based on my experiences and my parents who wanted to build a home in Delhi."
The film will delve into love, relationships, memories, and identities in 'home.'
Soundtrack
'Masoom: The Next Generation' to feature music by Maati Baani
The sequel will have five songs, composed by the band Maati Baani, led by husband-wife duo Nirali Kartik and Kartik Shah.
Kapur praised their music as "folksy and Indian with a modern touch."
He humorously added that he has to compete with his songs in the original Masoom.
To recall, Masoom is remembered for songs such as Lakdi Ki Kaathi and Tujhse Naraz Nahin Zindagi.
Production plan
Character details and filming schedule for 'Masoom: The Next Generation'
In the sequel, Azmi and Shah will play characters in their 80s, while Kaveri Kapur (the director's daughter) will play a girl with an Indian father and an American mother.
Kapur stressed that it is "a very performance-oriented film," and he doesn't want to rush his actors.
"We will of course do workshops and weeks of rehearsals before we begin shooting. The first schedule will start with the entire cast."
