Shahid's 'Haider' to premiere in Srinagar after 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan's success
Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Haider is set to have its first-ever screening in Srinagar, following the massive success of Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). The 2014 film, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, is a modern-day adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet set against the backdrop of Kashmir. Despite its global success and critical acclaim, Haider was never screened in Kashmir until now.
'Haider' to be screened in Kashmir on popular demand
Vikas Dhar, owner of Inox Srinagar, told Bollywood Hungama that audiences in the region have a strong preference for films set in Kashmir or romantic stories. He added that Bajrangi Bhaijaan was particularly popular, with frequent requests for the film, as it holds a special place in viewers' hearts. He said, "Everyone, however, asks for Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Everyone here loves that film."
Special screening from Friday
In response to popular demand, Dhar released Bajrangi Bhaijaan on September 6. Following this, on September 8, he ran a poll on Inox Srinagar's social media to let patrons vote for the next film screening. The options were Kabir Singh, Haider, Student of the Year, and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Haider received the most votes and will therefore be featured in a special release in Kashmir on Friday (September 20).
