SRK tops taxpayer list with ₹92cr; beats Vijay, Salman Khan
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has emerged as the highest tax-paying Indian celebrity for the financial year 2024, contributing a whopping ₹92cr. This achievement comes on the heels of his successful year at the box office, brand endorsements, and various business ventures. His films reportedly raked in over ₹2,000cr globally in 2023. Following him closely are Tamil cinema's Thalapathy Vijay and Salman Khan in tax payments.
Vijay and Salman trail behind SRK
Vijay, a leading figure in the South Indian film industry, secured the second spot with a tax payment of ₹80 crore. His significant contribution is attributed to his immense popularity, successful films, and lucrative endorsements. Despite a less-than-stellar year at the box office, Salman managed to secure third place by paying ₹75 crore in taxes. His consistent presence on this list is due to his ongoing film projects, television appearances, and endorsement deals.
Bachchan and Kohli among top 5 tax-paying celebrities
Amitabh Bachchan, another stalwart of the Indian entertainment industry, made it to the Top 5 in the list with a substantial contribution of ₹71 crore in taxes. His recent role in the Nag Ashwin's blockbuster film Kalki 2898 AD, which grossed over ₹1,000 crore, has undoubtedly contributed to his significant tax payment. Cricketer Virat Kohli rounded out the top five with a tax payment of ₹66 crore.
Other notable tax contributors from Bollywood and sports
The list of top tax-paying celebrities also featured other prominent figures from Bollywood and the sports world. Ajay Devgn contributed ₹42 crore, while Ranbir Kapoor paid ₹36 crore in taxes. Hrithik Roshan secured the 10th spot with a tax payment of ₹28 crore. From the sports arena, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (₹38 crore) and Sachin Tendulkar (₹28 crore) were among the top 10, while former cricketer Sourav Ganguly (₹23 crore) and Hardik Pandya (₹13 crore) also made significant contributions.
More celebrities who made significant tax contributions
The list of top tax-paying celebrities also included comedian Kapil Sharma (₹26 crore), and Bollywood actors Kareena Kapoor Khan (₹20 crore), Shahid Kapoor (₹14 crore), and Katrina Kaif (₹11 crore). South Indian superstars Mohanlal and Allu Arjun each contributed ₹14 crore. Kiara Advani paid ₹12 crore, while Pankaj Tripathi contributed ₹11 crore. Aamir Khan secured the 21st spot on the list with a tax payment of ₹10 crore.
