Woman drops sexual assault lawsuit against Jay-Z, Sean 'Diddy' Combs
What's the story
A woman who had accused hip-hop moguls Sean "Diddy" Combs and Jay-Z (55) of sexually assaulting her at 13 has dropped her civil lawsuit.
The allegations were related to an incident that allegedly took place in September 2000 at a post-MTV Video Music Awards party.
The dismissal was filed with the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, noting the action is "voluntarily dismissed, with prejudice"—meaning it can't be refiled.
Reactions
Jay-Z and Combs's reactions to the lawsuit dismissal
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has welcomed the dismissal of the case. He described it as "frivolous, fictitious and appalling."
"This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. The fictional tale they created was laughable if not for the seriousness of the claims."
"The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed."
Meanwhile, Combs's attorney said this dismissal without a settlement confirmed these lawsuits were built on "falsehoods."
Ongoing cases
Combs faces separate charges and multiple lawsuits
Separately, Combs (55) faces multiple sex trafficking, sexual assault, and racketeering charges.
Federal prosecutors allege he sexually abused women and coerced them into drug-fueled sex parties with threats and violence. He has denied all these charges.
His criminal trial will begin on May 5 and he remains jailed in New York awaiting it.
New case
A new lawsuit was recently filed against the rapper
A new lawsuit has accused Combs of hiring a trafficked, minor girl for a sex party in Miami some years ago, reported TMZ.
The alleged incident happened "in or around 2020" when Combs had organized a "group sex event in a warehouse."
"She was forced to have sex with around 20 men while Diddy was having sex with a [12 or 13-year-old] Latina," per TMZ.
Per PEOPLE, another Jane Doe has accused him of sexual assault "in or around 2002."
