'Sex Education' star Asa Butterfield to make stage debut
Asa Butterfield, acclaimed for his performance in Sex Education, is set to make his theatrical debut in a one-man play titled Second Best. The play, penned by Barney Norris and inspired by David Foenkinos's novel, will showcase Butterfield as Martin Hill. His character is a man who narrowly missed playing Harry Potter as a child and now contemplates that life-altering event while preparing for fatherhood.
Butterfield's excitement and play's universal appeal
Butterfield expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming play, describing it as "equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, a universal tale of 'what ifs.'" He added, "I can't wait to bring it to life on stage for the very first time." The production is directed by Michael Longhurst with design by Fly Davis. It will run at Riverside Studios from January 24 to February 22, 2025.

Simon Friend, the producer of Second Best, praised Foenkinos's novel as a "coming-of-age story of success and failure, love and loss, and fathers and sons."
