Supreme Court rejects plea for independent probe into Sridevi's death
The Supreme Court today rejected a petition for an independent probe into Bollywood legend Sridevi's death. Filmmaker Sunil Singh had approached the apex court, after the Delhi High Court on March 9 refused to entertain his PIL to investigate her death. Sridevi breathed her last on February 24.
"We can't interfere with the probe"
A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud dismissed the plea saying, "We can't interfere with the probe." "We had already dismissed two petitions on the same issue," the Chief Justice added. In his petition, Sunil had stated that Sridevi's death was of national interest.
Previously, MEA had ruled out foul play in her demise
Putting an end to all the speculations, the Ministry Of External Affairs had in March ruled out the possibility of anything suspicious in Sridevi's sudden demise in Dubai. Dubai Public Prosecution had attributed her death to accidental drowning after three days of the investigation. It was earlier reported that Sridevi died of a massive cardiac arrest.
Sridevi passed away at the age of 54
On the fateful night of February 24, Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor found her lying motionless in the bathtub. She had gone to Dubai to attend the wedding of her relative Mohit Marwah along with Boney and her younger daughter Khushi Kapoor.
