Satish Kaushik is taking cinema to villages in a truck!
In a bid to make cinema accessible to the people of rural areas of the country, Satish Kaushik has launched Mobile Digital Movie Theatre (MDMT). These are essentially trucks (converted into theatres) that can travel to different villages and screen movies. The make-shift theatres were launched yesterday in Delhi by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The tickets are priced between Rs. 35 to Rs. 75
The mobile theatres are air-conditioned, fire-proof, and weather-proof and the ticket prices vary from Rs. 35 to Rs. 75. Entrepreneur Sushil Chaudhary has backed the project. His company, Picture Time, already runs such theatres. He aims to provide a cheaper movie experience to the residents of rural areas.
A first for India
A media reports stated, "This is a revolutionary concept and can fulfill the aspirations of people in small towns. There is a shortage of movie theatres in India as compared to USA and China." "According to an estimate, there are around 2,200 multiplexes in India for a population of around 1.3 billion people, which is far below the density in developed countries," it added.
Satish is content with the way things are going
"The government is supporting us by ensuring that we can seamlessly procure permissions, including for the use of land and deployment of fire, police officials. In fact, we are giving preferred ad space to them so that they can connect with the citizens," he said.
