Sara Ali Khan's 'Kedarnath' to face protests for promoting 'love-jihad'?
Just days after the release of its much-loved teaser, Sara Ali Khan's debut movie 'Kedarnath' has been hit by controversy once again. Reportedly, some priests from the town of Kedarnath have raised objection over the movie and demanded a blanket ban on its release. The priests alleged that the movie hurts Hindu religious sentiments by promoting love-jihad. Here's more on it.
Priests threaten to launch agitation against 'Kedarnath'
Expressing their anger towards 'Kedarnath', the priests have threatened to launch protests if the movie is released. The Chairman of Kedar Sabha, an organization of the priests based in Kedarnath, Vinod Shukla said, "We will launch an agitation if the movie is not banned as we have been told that it hurts the Hindu religious sentiments by promoting love jihad".
State BJP leader also urges CBFC for a ban
Meanwhile, state BJP leader, Ajendra Ajay, in a tweet, has also urged the censor board to ban the movie. He alleged that the teaser has hurt the Hindu sentiments by showing bold scenes with the backdrop of Uttarakhand floods that killed thousands. He further objected to the poster where "a Muslim is carrying the Hindu tourist" with the Kedarnath shrine in the background.
'Kedarnath' tagline is offensive: Ajendra Ajay
Ajay further added that the movie 'Kedarnath' is factually incorrect as there is "no Muslim ferrying pilgrims on the trekking route to the Kedarnath shrine". Notably, the movie features Sushant Singh Rajput as a Muslim pithoo who helps Sara, a Hindu tourist, to reach the shrine. Ajay also mentioned that the tagline of 'Kedarnath' - 'Love is Pilgrimage' is equally offensive.
'Kedarnath' is about wrath of nature and power of love
With the controversy over 'Kedarnath' gaining momentum, we wonder how the makers are planning to deal with it. Helmed by Abhishek Kapoor, 'Kedarnath' will mark the Bollywood debut of Sara opposite Sushant. The movie is about the wrath of nature taking over the valley and how the power of love stands as a strong shield. It is slated to release on December 7.
