Sanju: Calling Ranbir 'bhaiyya' wasn't cakewalk for on-screen Priya Dutt
Well, Ranbir Kapoor is a heartthrob and this can't be argued. So having him as a brother on the silver screen is bound to trigger mixed feelings. The same happened with Aditi Gautam, who essayed the role of Priya Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani directorial 'Sanju'. Speaking to HT, Aditi said she found it difficult to address Ranbir as 'bhaiyya' while shooting.
He is Ranbir Kapoor after all, Aditi says
"It was very difficult for me to call him 'bhaiyya' in the first place. He is Ranbir Kapoor after all, and I was like, I can't do this," Aditi said. But somehow she managed. Till she had to yell 'bhaiyya' during a scene and she just couldn't. After repeated takes, the 'sound dada' had to intervene to perfect the scene, Aditi revealed.
Working in Sanju a fulfilling experience for Aditi
Aditi said she learnt something new every day from Raju Hirani when she went on sets. The director too was impressed with her work. "Raju sir was impressed by my performance so much that he patted my back, smiled and said 'well done'," she recalled. Gushing over Ranbir, Aditi said he is humble and chilled out. They had long conversations on sets, she said.
Never thought I would resemble Priya Dutt, says Aditi
"Firstly, I never thought that I look anywhere near Priya Dutt, but after hair and make-up, I could not believe myself. He (Hirani) has the eye for such things and was the one who found the similarity even without the makeover," Aditi added.
In real life, Priya Dutt is Sanjay's pillar of strength
Throughout Sanjay Dutt's tumultuous life, his sister Priya held his hand. In 2013, when Dutt was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for possessing arms illegally, Priya broke down in the Supreme Court. Upon his release, Priya had wished their father Sunil Dutt was alive to see the emotional day. However, Hirani didn't dedicate enough screen-time to this relationship in the biopic 'Sanju'.
Meanwhile, there's no stopping 'Sanju' at the box office
Despite 'Sanju' being considered a white-wash attempt by Hirani, the movie is doing wonders at the box office. Analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted today that the biopic has earned Rs. 237 crore in the domestic market. The movie released on June 29.
