Known for his grand and lavish film set-ups, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is a film and music director, producer, and screenwriter in Hindi cinema. He started his career as an assistant to Vindu Vinod Chopra, with whom he had a falling out. In 1996, Bhansali made his debut as a director with the film 'Khamoshi'. Even though the movie did not do well at the box office, it earned the Best Film Critics Award at Filmfare. He made his name in the industry with 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', which premiered at the International Film Festival of India (1999), and won many awards, including four National and nine Filmfare Awards. In the following years, 'Devdas' (2002) got him international recognition, and 'Black' (2005) earned eleven awards at Filmfare. 'Ramleela', 'Mary Kom', 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Padmaavat' became some of his hit movies. Bhansali is known for making and breaking his records at Filmfare. In 2015, he was awarded Padma Shri Award by the Government of India.
