After 'Prassthanam,' Sanjay Dutt's second production to be 'Khalnayak' sequel
Sanjay Dutt, who recently confirmed the making of Munnabhai 3, also revealed about his next project. While promoting his first production, Prassthanam, which has hit theaters today, he said that his next will be a sequel to his 1993 release Khalnayak, co-starring Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit as Ram and Ganga. Reportedly, Tiger Shroff will be playing the lead in the sequel.
"We have approached Tiger Shroff to star in the film"
"I can't speak for others but we are definitely looking at making a sequel to Khalnayak under the Sanjay S Dutt production house. We are still in the talking phase, and have approached Tiger Shroff to star in the film," Sanjay told Gulf News.
Tiger is likely to be playing Jackie's son in sequel
To recall, Khalnayak was an action thriller, and revolved around police inspector Ram (Jackie) and his quest to nab criminal Ballu (Dutt). According to a Mid-Day report, the sequel will begin with Dutt's character coming out of the prison, and looking out for Ram-Ganga's son. The media report also suggested that makers are planning to have Tiger play Ram's son in the sequel.
Apart from Dutt, several directors have expressed interest in sequel
To note, Dutt is yet to acquire the rights for the sequel from director Subhash Ghai. Also, several others have expressed their interest in the project. "While negotiating the transfer of rights, Subhash often expressed his desire to have creative control over the remakes," a source was quoted as saying. We wonder, given the condition, if Dutt will be able to acquire the rights.
"We've not sold the rights of the sequel of 'Khalnayak'"
Meanwhile, Ghai has confirmed being approached for the sequel rights for Khalnayak. "Sanjay Dutt and few other producers have approached us, but we haven't sold the rights of the sequel to anyone yet," the director told Mid-Day. In fact, Ghai himself had shown interest in making the sequel as Khalnayak Returns. However, things didn't seem to work for him so far.
Currently, Tiger is gearing up for 'War' with Hrithik Roshan
While an announcement about Khalnayak sequel and its cast is yet to be made, Tiger is currently looking forward to the release of War. Also starring Hrithik Roshan and Vaani Kapoor, War will release on October 2. Touted to be the biggest action entertainer of 2019, War features high-octane action sequence performed by Hrithik and Tiger.
