During imprisonment, Maanayata told kids I was shooting: Sanjay Dutt
Sanjay Dutt, one of the most formidable names in Bollywood, recently relived his dark days in an interview with Zee News. When he was languishing in Pune's Yerawada Jail, his wife Maanayata told the kids he was away shooting, he recalled. "Luckily the jail authorities allowed me one call every fortnight, and I would make that call to (the kids)," he says.
'After the first film, only work can take your forward'
The 'Khalnayak' was imprisoned for the possession of illegal arms. He spent part of the sentence in 2006-07 and then in 2013-15. He was finally released in February'16. His "normal" upbringing despite being born in an influential family helped him cope, he said. He also chipped in on the nepotism debate: "After the first film, it all depends on…how many hits you give."
Dutt's next, 'Bhoomi', releases next week
Dutt's next, 'Bhoomi', will be released on September 22. The movie reportedly explores a father-daughter (Aditi Rao Hydari) relationship. In some uplifting news, the former drug addict is also planning to launch a Drug Free India campaign. As for politics, he has no such plans, he says. One day he wants to tell his life story to his kids. "I'm waiting for them to grow up."
