When he decided to make 'Sanju', both Sanjay Dutt and Hirani were confident that Dutt's controversial story would mint money. Hence, Dutt didn't give his story for free. A report has it that he charged Rs. 9 crore and asked for a profit cut. Now, that's the deal of the century. Everyone wins, except 'gullible' public.

A source revealed, "Sanjay Dutt's team negotiated hard. They finally settled for an outright Rs. 9-10 crore, plus a portion of the box office profits. Only then were the film's producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani allowed access to Sanjay Dutt's life."

It is imperative to note that Rajkumar Hirani went all out with 'Sanju'. The film released on 4,000 screens across the country, which is the second highest screen-count of 2018 after 'Race 3'. Overseas, the film was released on 1,300 plus screens. 'Sanju' has been jointly produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films.
