Indian actor Sanaya Irani recently shared her struggles while trying to establish herself in the Bollywood and South Indian film industries. Speaking to Hautterfly, Irani—known for her role in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon—disclosed that she was asked to wear a bikini for a film project involving big stars. She also recounted a conversation with a South film director who told her, "We need people with fuller figures."
'I was like 'then I am not the fuller person...'
Detailing an unsettling experience with a representative from the South Indian film industry, she recalled, "Long ago, a person from the South wanted to meet me for a film..." "So I just went, and after the meeting, he was like 'we need a little fuller person.' And I was like 'then I am not the fuller person.'" "A lot of times, I feel that people meet girls to suss it out-is she the kind who slept or hasn't slept."
Irani revealed misleading audition experience in Bollywood
Irani also recounted a misleading audition experience related to Bollywood. She was initially informed that the audition was for a music video, only to later discover it was for a film. Irani shared, "So he was like, 'I am making this big film, there are many big heroes, and you will have to wear a bikini.' And I was like, 'And my character is?' and he was like 'Are you okay wearing a bikini?'" "He was getting rude...I hung up."
Irani's journey in the television industry
Irani began her acting career with a cameo appearance in the Aamir Khan-starrer Fanaa. She made her television debut in 2007 with Left Right Left, followed by her role in Miley Jab Hum Tum. Irani met her husband, television actor Mohit Sehgal while working on this show. The couple got married in 2016 and were the second runners-up on the dance reality show Nach Baliye 8 in 2017. The actor shot to fame with Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon.
