Is 'Sanam Teri Kasam' sequel happening or not? Directors clarify
What's the story
Amid the raging controversy over the announced sequel of the 2016 film Sanam Teri Kasam, the director duo of the movie, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, have clarified their stance.
The film, featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, was recently re-released almost a decade after its first run.
Its newfound popularity prompted an announcement about a sequel in the works which triggered a row with producer Deepak Mukut who claimed that he owns the film's intellectual property (IP) rights.
Clarification
'We wrote part 2 at that time only...'
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Sapru clarified, "Sanam Teri Kasam begins with a flashback. We wrote part two of the film at that time only. We wanted to go ahead with a second part, but unfortunately for whatever reason, we couldn't."
He added, "Nobody even asked for it all this while, until now. This (confusion) has been happening because of the interviews."
Producer's role
Sapru confirmed Mukut's involvement in the sequel
Sapru further said, "I want to put it on record once and for all: There will be another story of love and promises that will arrive on Valentine's in 2026, but we didn't announce a film."
He stressed his respect for Mukut, calling him a "dear friend," and confirmed his involvement in the sequel.
When asked if Mukut would produce the sequel, Sapru confidently replied, "Why do you feel otherwise? We're a team. This journey is for all of us."
Actor's enthusiasm
Hocane expressed interest in reprising her role
Meanwhile, Hocane has expressed interest in returning for the sequel.
She said, "If it's possible for me to be a part of it, I'd love to. But even if it isn't, there's no hard feelings."
The original film narrates a heart-wrenching love story of Inder and Saru. The story follows as Saraswati (Saru) is disowned by her father, and Inder stands by her without any conditions.
However, despite their blossoming relationship, destiny has other plans.
