'IGL' row: Samay Raina appears before Maharashtra Cyber Cell
What's the story
Popular YouTuber and comedian Samay Raina appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on Friday as part of the ongoing investigation into his controversial YouTube show India's Got Latent.
The case, which sparked outrage in February, revolves around allegations of promoting obscenity and vulgar content.
An FIR was filed against Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, and others after explicit discussions on the show went viral.
The episode has since been removed, but the legal scrutiny continues.
Obscenity allegations
FIR against Raina and others for promoting obscenity
Raina had earlier appeared before the Cyber Cell on Monday and was spotted entering the Maharashtra Cyber Cell office again today.
The FIR against Raina and others was filed on the grounds of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions during the now-deleted YouTube show.
Reportedly, over 30 people have been summoned for questioning in connection with this case by the Maharashtra Cyber Police.
The statements of Allahbadia, Chanchlani, Mukhija, and others have already been recorded by the agency.
Inappropriate remark
The controversial remark made by Allahbadia during the show
Allahbadia made the controversial remark as a question to a contestant.
He asked, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day or join them and finish it once and for all?"
The comment shocked fellow "judges" on the show. Raina responded with, "What the f***?"
Another judge was heard asking, "Kya ho gaya hai Ranveer bhai ko?" (What happened to Ranveer bhai?)
Apology issued
Allahbadia later apologized for his controversial comment
After the incident, Allahbadia apologized for his controversial comment on the show. He called the episode a "lapse in judgment," adding, "My comment was not just inappropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte. Just here to say sorry."
Without naming him, the SC bench also reprimanded Raina for commenting on the case on his show in Canada.
Court's remarks
Supreme Court criticized Raina for his comments
During a Supreme Court hearing, the bench criticized Raina for speaking about the case on his show in Canada.
Justice Kant said, "These youngsters are being overly smart. They think we are probably an outdated generation. One of them has gone to Canada and spoken there."
"They don't know the jurisdiction which this Court enjoys and what can probably be done. We don't want to because they are young; we understand."
