What's the story

Citadel: Honey Bunny star Samantha Ruth Prabhu had to deal with several health issues while filming. Her co-star Varun Dhawan recently shared with The Hollywood Reporter India that she suffered from severe cramping and even collapsed between shots. However, despite the challenges, Prabhu continued to shoot for the action-packed series while fighting Myositis—a condition that leads to inflammation in the muscles due to an immune system attack.

Co-star's account

Dhawan recalled Prabhu's health struggles on set

Dhawan revealed he witnessed Prabhu's health struggles firsthand. He recalled two incidents that left a mark on him, one of which involved Prabhu needing an oxygen tank on set. "I was so worried because I remember one day when we were shooting, she just shut her eyes and said, 'It's just one of those days.' We kept shooting for about two hours and after a short while an oxygen tank is coming and she is taking oxygen on the side."

On-set incident

When Prabhu collapsed while filming in Serbia

Dhawan also recounted a second incident in Serbia where Prabhu collapsed while filming a running scene. "The second one was when we were shooting in Serbia at a railway station and she had to run behind me. So I have run past the camera and she is still in the frame and she just collapsed." Despite the challenges, Dhawan praised Prabhu's determination and willpower, adding that her resilience inspired everyone on set.

Perseverance

Prabhu's determination and gratitude toward the 'Citadel' team

Despite her health challenges, Prabhu stayed committed to her role in Citadel. She thanked the team for their unwavering support, saying, "I couldn't be more grateful to these people for helping me every single day and not giving up on me." "If it wasn't for them, it would have taken much longer for me to get healthier again and I wouldn't have had anything to fight back for or to come back up. This was enough motivation."
