Samantha Bee announces second 'Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner'
Samantha Bee is best known for Full Frontal, a late night news satire and talk show on TBS. Bee, who made her name by mining comic gold out of relevant and awkward situations, is turning her attention once again to the White House Correspondents' Dinner. She recently announced that she would host her own Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
Intentionally setting the same date, Bee plans a satirical dinner
Bee has intentionally set the broadcast date for her second, but not annual, Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner on April 27. Notably, this is the day President Donald Trump will host the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner. It is her intention to portray the official dinner in a satirical light on the same day, in order to gain greater audience response.
Someone's gotta roast that mother******, says Bee
Bee opened up about returning as the host for Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner, saying, "I promised myself I'd never do another one of these. But someone's gotta roast that mother****** and if they won't do it, I will".
Event 'going to be a night of glamour and gout'
Bee has proclaimed herself the new White House Correspondents' Association, jokingly, since 'the old one doesn't have the balls to face a comedian'. Thus she wants to gather members of the media, promising them 'dinner of a lifetime' in celebration of the First Amendment. She added about the upcoming event, "It's going to be a night of glitz, glamour, and gout".
Bee's upcoming event aimed at taking care of 'real journalists'
Bee announced the event, feeling obligated to take care of 'real journalists'. Further, she added, "It's bigger than just the free press this time around. This is about the non-sexy parts of the First Amendment, too - and if the White House Correspondents' Association won't defend them, we will". Notably, all proceeds from her dinner will go to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
