Priyanka called my sister 1,000-times to work in 'Bharat': Salman
Salman Khan's upcoming movie 'Bharat' created a buzz in the town when the lead actress Priyanka Chopra made a sudden exit. Priyanka, who had a pivotal role in the movie, left 'Bharat' just before her engagement with Nick Jonas. Her exit left 'Bharat' team in a tough spot. Priyanka was not the first choice for 'Bharat'
Salman, in an interview to Mid-Day, revealed that Priyanka was never the first choice for 'Bharat'. In fact, the makers wanted to cast Katrina Kaif. However, Priyanka was signed after she called director Ali Abbas Zafar and said she wanted to work in 'Bharat'. "It was sweet of her to tell us five days before the shoot that she couldn't do Bharat," Salman said, rather sarcastically.
Priyanka wanted to work with Salman; called Arpita 1,000 times
Salman also revealed that not just Ali, Priyanka had also called his sister Arpita a thousand times and told her that she wanted to work with him. Notably, he even stated that leaving 'Bharat' was a tough decision for PeeCee. "It must have been very difficult for her to make this decision because she was very keen to work on this project," Salman asserted.
Salman's reaction on Priyanka's exit
Priyanka's sudden exit from 'Bharat' left the entire team devastated. Salman stated that although Katrina is working really hard for the movie, it would have been better if they knew about PeeCee's exit well in advance. "She had a genuine problem at that point of time, but it's just that we should have known it slightly earlier," he said.
Salman said he tried convincing Priyanka
Salman also stated that he tried convincing Priyanka and even agreed to adjust the dates as per her wedding. But the actress was clear that she didn't want to do 'Bharat'. Salman said, "Priyanka's work was for 75-80 days. So, we said we will work it out. But she was very clear that she didn't want to be a part of the film".
Is Priyanka not interested in working in Bollywood anymore?
Salman was also quizzed about Priyanka's reason for leaving 'Bharat'. To which he said that she might not be interested in working with him or in Bollywood anymore. "Not doing this had to be because of the wedding or because she doesn't want to work with me anymore. It could also be because she wants to work only in Hollywood," Salman added.
Is Salman miffed with Priyanka for leaving 'Bharat'?
Despite Priyanka's sudden exit from 'Bharat', Salman has clarified that he holds no grudges against the actress and wishes the best for her. "No no, I am not angry with Priyanka at all. It's a great move in her life (engagement with Nick) and I wish them all the best," Salman said during the BB12 press conference. 'Bharat' releases on Eid next year.
