Right thing should be done: Salman Khan on farmers' protest

    What's the story

Of late, Bollywood celebrities have been actively sharing their opinion on the ongoing farmers' protest.

Now joining the bandwagon, actor Salman Khan has also spoken up about the farmers' agitation against three new controversial farm laws passed by the central government.

The actor has said that the correct thing should be done to address the issue.

Here are more details on this.

    Details

'The most noble thing should be done'

As reported by SpotboyE, when asked by paparazzi about the ongoing protest, Khan said, "The right thing should be done. The most correct thing should be done. The most noble thing should be done (sic)."

The actor reportedly made this statement at the launch event of a music reality show, Indian Pro Music League, in Mumbai.

    Protest

How the issue picked steam among celebrities

For months, thousands of farmers have been protesting against the new laws near Delhi's borders.

Recently, a tweet by pop star Rihanna, that read, "Why aren't we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest (sic)," created havoc on the internet.

A number of Indian celebrities have since opined against her and supported the government.

They shared their thoughts on social media by using hashtags #IndiaTogether and #IndiaAgainstPropaganda.

    Tweets

'Don't fall for any false propaganda against India'

Actor Ajay Devgn took to Twitter and wrote, "Don't fall for any false propaganda against India or Indian policies. It's important to stand united at this hour w/o any infighting #IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda (sic)."

Several other Bollywood stars such as Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, and Suniel Shetty have also shared such messages after Rihanna's tweet supporting the farmers surfaced.

    Kangana

Kangana also at odds with celebrities over the protest

The protest has created a rift between Bollywood stars.

Actor Kangana Ranaut has been at odds with fellow actor Diljit Dosanjh and others who have come out in support of the protesting farmers.

More recently, she slammed Rihanna as well as climate activist Greta Thunberg for their support toward farmers.

Two of the actor's tweets were deleted by Twitter over violation of its rules.

    Agitation

What are the farmers protesting against?

Thousand of farmers from several states across the country have been demanding the roll back of three new agricultural laws.

They feel that the laws will deprive them of the minimum guaranteed prices and leave them at the mercy of big corporates.

Multiple rounds of discussions between the farmers and the central government have thus far failed to end the deadlock.
