Sajid Nadiadwala dedicates 'Chhichhore' award to Sushant Singh Rajput
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala honored the memory of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput by dedicating him an award won by his movie Chhichhore. The Rajput-starrer won the Favorite Bollywood Movie at the recent Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2020. To note, Chhichhore remains the last theatrical release for Rajput, who passed away in June last year. Here is more on this.
'We love you Rockstar,' says Nadiadwala
A tweet on the official Twitter handle of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment read, "Dedicating this Award to our #SushantSinghRajput. We love you Rockstar! Thank you @niteshtiwari22 @ShraddhaKapoor & the brilliant team. Honored to receive Favorite Bollywood film for #Chhichhore, @NickIndia - Heartfelt gratitude #SajidNadiadwala @WardaNadiadwala." Chhichhore was directed by Nitesh Tiwari, and also featured actors Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Sharma, among others, in significant roles.
Here's what Nadiadwala Grandson posted
'Chhichhore' was about never giving up on life
Chhichhore told the story of Anni (Rajput), whose teenaged son Raghav attempts to take his own life after failing to clear an engineering entrance exam. To teach Raghav the true meaning of life, Anni tells him about his own journey from being a "loser" in college to where he is now. He takes the help of his college friends and his ex-wife for this.
'Chhichhore' turned out to be a superhit
Chhichhore turned out to be a critical and commercial success, collecting over Rs. 150 crore in the domestic market. The film was praised for its story and Rajput was widely appreciated for his performance. In our review of Chhichhore back in 2019, we had written, "Despite its formulaic approach, the film still manages to be engaging and fun."
Rajput's untimely death shook the entire country
Rajput was found dead on June 14, 2020, at his Mumbai residence. While his death was ruled as a suicide after a preliminary investigation by the Mumbai Police, the case has now been taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Further, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) are respectively looking into money laundering and drug angles in the case.
His last movie was 'Dil Bechara'
Having started out as a TV actor, Rajput transitioned to a career in the movies with a role in the critically-acclaimed drama Kai Po Che!, which made more people take notice of his talent. He last starred in the romantic film Dil Bechara opposite Sanjana Sanghi, which streamed on Disney+ Hotstar about one month after his demise.
