'I just grabbed him': Saif narrates wrestling armed intruder
What's the story
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan recently revealed chilling details about the attempted robbery at his Bandra home on January 16.
Speaking to the Delhi Times, he recounted how he was attacked by an intruder carrying hex blades.
The incident took place late at night when Khan's wife-actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, had returned from dinner with friends and the couple had turned in for the night.
Intruder attack
'There's an intruder! There's a guy in Jeh's room...'
Khan recalled the terrifying moment their house help alerted them to an intruder in Jeh's room.
"It was around 2 am I could get the time wrong slightly, but it was late... There's an intruder! There's a guy in Jeh's room with a knife asking for money!"
He then described confronting the masked assailant who was holding what appeared to be two sticks over Jeh's bed, which turned out to be hex blades.
Scuffle details
'I ran and pulled him down, then we were wrestling'
Khan described his physical fight with the intruder, saying, "And something just kind of took over and I just grabbed him. I ran and pulled him down, and then we were wrestling."
During the tussle, the actor was hit on his back multiple times which he initially thought were thuds.
Unaware at the time, Khan was stabbed in the spine which caused him to lose feeling in his right leg.
Medical intervention
Khan's journey to the hospital and surgery
After the attack, a bloodied Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital by rickshaw with his son Taimur Ali Khan and staff member Hari.
Upon arrival, doctors assessed his injuries, including multiple slashes on his hands and neck, but his back injury was their biggest concern.
An MRI revealed damage to his spine, necessitating a call for a spinal neurosurgeon.
The actor underwent a six-hour surgery, including a 2.5-hour spinal procedure.
Post-incident developments
Khan's recovery and intruder's arrest
Khan is now recuperating at home after surgery.
Meanwhile, the intruder, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh, has been arrested and is in custody.
Despite the horror, Khan found humor in recalling how he and Hari grabbed two decorative swords from the wall during the attack but didn't use them.
