'Room for improvisation...': Sai Pallavi compares Bollywood and South cinema
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, acclaimed actor Sai Pallavi spoke about the fundamental differences between South Indian and Hindi cinema. The interview was conducted during the Pinkvilla Masterclass, attended by the team of the blockbuster film Amaran. During the interview, Pallavi emphasized that there is more scope for improvisation in South Indian films than in Hindi ones.
'Everything is perfect in Bollywood'
Elaborating on her observation, Pallavi said, "I think that there's a lot of work that goes into the pre-production and how meticulous it is when you shoot, but down south it's a little more...you can improvise; there's a lot of room for improvisation." "Here (Bollywood), sometimes I feel that everything is perfect. I'm scared that if I want to improvise, there are a lot of things that need to change."
Pallavi highlighted wage disparity in South Indian cinema
Along with creative differences, Pallavi also highlighted a huge wage gap between the two industries. She mentioned that assistant directors in South Indian cinema are usually underpaid as opposed to their Bollywood counterparts. "But down South, I don't know if they're given or they're paid as much as they deserve to be paid. So, sometimes it's a little heartbreaking when you know that they're talented, they work really hard, but they don't get the deserving pay."
Pallavi's upcoming project with Ranbir Kapoor
On the work front, Pallavi will be seen sharing screen space with Ranbir Kapoor in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. The film will be released in two parts, with the first part releasing in 2026 and the second part in 2027. This project will be a major milestone in Pallavi's career as she continues to straddle South Indian and Hindi cinema. Her recent release, Amaran, is ruling the box office.
