While celebrities don't mind endorsing these fairness products, South Indian actress, Sai Pallavi recently took a stand against it by rejecting a fairness cream advertisement worth Rs. 2 crore.

For the uninitiated, Pallavi is a well-known face in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema. Her movies Premam and Fidaa were immensely successful.
In an interview with Behindwoods, the actress said that fairness cream ads give wrong signals to women and lower their self-esteem. We should love our "Indian color", she said.
"We can't go to foreigners and ask them why they're white," added Pallavi.

Pallavi went on to say she isn't after money and has other things on her mind.
"I'll go home and eat three chapatis or rice, go around in my car. I don't have other big needs. I see if I can contribute to the happiness of people around me or if I can say that these standards we see are wrong," she said.

Meanwhile, Pallavi is gearing up for her upcoming movie 'NGK'
Pallavi was last seen in Athiran, a psycho-thriller laced with twists and turns. Directed by Vivek, the movie was well-received by the audience.
As of now, the actress is gearing up for her upcoming movie NGK, a political action film directed by ace filmmaker, K. Selvaraghavan.
The movie is set to hit the theaters on May 31 this year.

Notably, Pallavi isn't the only one who has challenged "beauty norms". Earlier, actress Nandita Das also refused to endorse fairness advertisements.
She even started a campaign called 'Dark is Beautiful', in which she slammed notions.
Nandita added these advertisements affect women emotionally and they tell them they can't get a lover or a job if they aren't fair.
