Sanjay Dutt's film earns just 3.5% of his biopic's first-day-collection
As ironical as it is, Sanjay Dutt's 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3' earned just Rs. 1.25 crore on the first day, which is 3.5% of what his biopic 'Sanju' earned on opening day- Rs. 34.75 crore. It looks like Dutt's movie will not be able to rake in on 'Sanju' effect and SBG3 might not even touch the double-digit mark on the first weekend.
'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3' faces tough competition
The third part of the franchise faces strong competition from films like 'Dhadak', 'Mission Impossible- Fallout' and 'Sanju'. Sanjay Dutt, Jimmy Shergill and Chitrangada Singh's film witnessed only 8-10% occupancy yesterday and if the pattern holds, most theaters will discontinue the film after the weekend.
What went wrong: It seems SBG3 was doomed to tank
Tigmanshu Dhulia's latest addition to the celebrated franchise was doomed for failure from the start, it seems. Despite Dutt's star presence, the script was predictable, critics complained. Even the trailer didn't impress many and trade analysts were skeptical about its success. The director's claim that the franchise's class has improved fell flat and the opening day collections prove it.
Is SBG3 the worst part of the franchise? Probably yes
The first film opened to rave reviews in 2011 and it showed the anarchic world of power, seduction, and betrayal. The second one did even better in 2013. Irrfan and Soha Ali Khan joined the recurring cast of Jimmy Shergill and Mahi Gill taking the movie a notch higher. Both films fared well on the box-office. But with the third instalment, everything has gone south.
Meanwhile, 'Sanju' is the king even if Sanjay Dutt isn't
It seems viewers are more fascinated by Sanjay Dutt's life than his movies. 'Sanju' still reigns supreme at the box-office and has earned Rs. 337.28 crore. Apart from Dutt's colorful life, 'Sanju' also worked at the box office due to Ranbir Kapoor's impeccable acting and Rajkumar Hirani's brand of storytelling. In the end, it is Dutt who emerged the winner.
