S Durga not screened at IFFI, CBFC demands re-submission
Marked as controversial by the I&B ministry, 'S Durga' will not be screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which will end today, despite repeated requests from the jury members. The censor board wrote to the producers asking them to resubmit the movie, which was earlier given a U/A certificate. Here are the details.
Censor board orders re-examination
The CBFC stated that the makers cannot exhibit the film further until the board re-examines the whole movie again. It said that the makers will be notified about the development soon. Immediately after receiving the order from CBFC, IFFI director Sunit Tandon wrote to the director of 'S Durga', notifying him that the movie will not be showcased due to the CBFC's intervention.
No release despite requests
Earlier, the jury members had written a letter to Smriti Irani to reconsider the decision of removing the movies 'S Durga' and 'Nude' from the screening. They had also alleged that the films "were removed without any intimation, discussion or recourse to the jury which has the final say according to the Indian Panorama regulations." However, all attempts to screen the film have failed!
