'Beast in Me': Russell Crowe's sports drama gets MMA boost
Mixed martial arts franchise One Championship has joined the production of the upcoming sports action film The Beast in Me, according to a report by Variety. The movie, starring Russell Crowe and Daniel MacPherson, tells the story of a retired MMA fighter seeking vengeance for his brother. The film is set to begin production later this year and continue into early 2025.
One Championship's role in the film
One Championship will reportedly serve as a production partner and consultant for The Beast in Me. The company's chairman and CEO, Chatri Sityodtong, will also make an appearance in the film as an executive. The movie is being produced by US-based Broken Open Pictures and will be directed by Tyler Atkins. International rights are represented by the Los Angeles-based Solution Entertainment Group.
Film to feature key scene at One Championship event
The upcoming movie will be filmed at various locations, including the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. This venue will host a key scene during One Championship's Friday Fights live event on January 24. Additional footage will be captured throughout the fight week. One Championship has confirmed that Crowe will be present in Bangkok for the scene. David Frigero—who co-wrote the script with Crowe and will also produce the film—expressed his excitement about the partnership with One Championship.
One Championship CEO confident in partnership's success
Sityodtong also shared his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "I am thrilled to be partnering with the star-studded cast and production team behind The Beast in Me." He expressed confidence that One Championship is the best platform to help tell their story of grit, perseverance, and determination. "We cannot wait to host their entire team in Bangkok at a One Friday Fights fight week in January," he added.
