Box office: Aayush Sharma's 'Ruslaan' fails to impress, mints ₹2.09cr
Salman Khan's brother-in-law, Aayush Sharma, marked his cinematic comeback after a two-year hiatus with the action-packed spectacle Ruslaan, released theatrically on Friday. Despite considerable anticipation and endorsements from A-list stars like Khan himself, the film struggled to draw audiences in theaters. Its lackluster debut saw it earning just ₹2.09 crore in its opening weekend.
Performance: 'Ruslaan' failed to sustain momentum
The action-packed film opened with a modest ₹55 lakh collection and saw minimal growth over the weekend. On its second day, the movie managed to cross the ₹1cr mark by earning an estimated ₹75 lakh, bringing its total collection to ₹1.4cr. However, it failed to sustain this momentum and concluded its first weekend with a collection of just ₹79 lakh on Day 3. The film recorded an overall occupancy of only around 7.78% on Sunday.
'Ruslaan' is made on ₹20 crore budget
Directed by Karan Butani, Ruslaan features Sharma in the titular role alongside Sushrii Shreya Mishraa, Jagapathi Babu, and Vidya Malvade. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, the film only managed to rake in ₹2.09cr of its reported ₹20 crore budget. It faced stiff competition from Ajay Devgn's Maidaan, which emerged as the highest-earning film of the weekend with an estimated box office collection of ₹4.15cr in its third weekend.
'Ruslaan' is Sharma's least successful film so far
It's worth noting that Ruslaan marks Sharma's least successful film at the box office thus far. His previous films Love Yatri (2018) and Antim: The Final Truth (2021) recorded higher box office openings, with Love Yatri earning ₹2cr on its opening day and Antim collecting an impressive ₹5cr on Day 1. Despite the slow start, Ruslaan continues to draw audiences, particularly in Chennai, Bhopal, and Bengaluru.
