'Hollywood makes movies on Ramanujan,Bollywood on tainted-characters': RSS on 'Sanju'
While 'Sanju' raked in the big bucks, certain sections expressed disappointment about the 'glorification' of a convict. The latest to join this list is RSS, which went all out in its mouthpiece Panchjanya. Their cover story mentions Sanjay Dutt was arrested in the 1993 blasts, was an addict and had flings with women, so why was the film industry obsessed with such "tainted characters"?
RSS has three questions for Hirani
The story titled 'Kirdaar, Daaghdaar' calls Sanjay a 'criminal,' raising three questions about Rajkumar Hirani's biopic. Firstly, does Sanjay, son of Sunil Dutt and Nargis, have the qualities of a role model? Secondly, was the movie a PR stunt to whitewash his image? RSS reminded Hirani he had taken a slight at Hinduism in 'PK.' It also asked if Sanjay had done anything extraordinary.
'Who is funding these projects on criminals?'
An important question the article raised was why the Hindi film industry was making films on the mafia and underworld, including on Dawood Ibrahim or Haseena Parkar or Chhota Rajan, and bringing criminals into the spotlight. "Who is funding these projects?" it asked. It also painted a contrasting picture with Hollywood, which has made a movie on mathematician S Ramanujan (The Man Who Knew Infinity).
Meanwhile, Sanju inches towards the Rs. 300cr club
As RSS ranted, 'Sanju' continued making waves in the industry for the 14th day, inching towards the Rs. 300cr club. Till yesterday, it had garnered nearly Rs. 290cr. The film has thrown the spotlight on Kapoor, who has received critical acclaim for his performance. Apart from him, the movie features Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Anushka Sharma, Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal and Manisha Koirala.
