'RRR' box office collections: SS Rajamouli-directorial's unstoppable rampage continues
After several delays, pan-Indian magnum opus RRR finally hit theaters on Friday (March 25). And, people have showered it with a lot of love, helping the film collect over Rs. 240 crore on the first day. Its Telugu version collected a whopping Rs. 120 crore on the opening day across various territories, while the SS Rajamouli-directorial made Rs. 75 crore overseas. Here's more.
Why does this story matter?
RRR has reportedly been made on a humongous Rs. 450-500 crore budget. So, a lot is riding on it, but the film has lived up to the hype. It is already on the way to becoming a blockbuster, beating the likes of Baabubali 2. This kind of box office reception is a much-needed encouragement for upcoming Telugu films like Acharya and Sarkaru Vaari Paata.
How did the film perform in other languages?
Coming back to RRR's collections, its Hindi version minted Rs. 25 crore on Day 1, while the Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam versions earned Rs. 14cr, Rs. 10cr, and Rs. 4cr, respectively. Meanwhile, the much-awaited fantasy drama also witnessed good opening day collections in the overseas markets, including the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and the Middle East, grossing Rs. 75 crore across these countries.
Early trends suggested 25% jump in collections on Day 2
While there is no official word on the film's collections on the second day, RRR is said to have performed exceptionally well on Saturday as well. Moreover, early trends had suggested the film might see a 25% rise in the box office collections on Day 2. Meanwhile, according to some reports, the two-day worldwide collection of the movie might be around Rs. 400-450 crore.
Poor promotions before release didn't affect collections
RRR's collections are particularly significant given the film could not be promoted properly ahead of its release. The movie was initially slated for a January release. At the time, the team had traveled to different Indian states to promote the film. But the release was later postponed owing to the Omicron scare. However, this time, promotions were comparatively weak but fortunately didn't affect collections.
