'Roohi' box office: Film improves business on day 3
The lull at the box office finally seems to be getting lifted. Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Roohi's box office numbers for Saturday came in, and the film is doing significant business. The day 3 collection of the movie were its biggest numbers, taking the total collection to Rs. 8.7 crore, recovering from the dip in business observed on Friday. The film released on March 11.
'Roohi' gathers momentum, says Taran Adarsh
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the movie's business saying, "#Roohi gathers momentum as the weekend sets in... Multiplexes are key contributors... Substantial growth on Sat gives hope... Double-digit *extended* opening weekend is confirmed... Thu 3.06 cr [#MahaShivratri], Fri 2.25 cr, Sat 3.42 cr. Total: Rs. 8.73 cr. #India biz." The film banked on the long weekend, courtesy the festival of Maha Shivratri.
'Roohi' is a horror-comedy, second in line from 'Stree'
Roohi is a part of producer Dinesh Vijan's horror-comedy universe. The first film was the 2018 blockbuster Stree. Kapoor portrays a witch in the movie, who abducts brides after their wedding. Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma play two village boys who take it on themselves to save the girls of the village from "Roohi". The film is directed by Hardik Mehta.
The film is fetching poor reviews
The film, despite its numbers, has not really impressed the critics and the audiences. Many reviews slammed the movie for the lack of a coherent storyline, while others were not happy with the acting of the lead stars. Some reviews also commented on how the horror quotient of the movie wasn't scary enough and it also failed at being funny.
'Roohi' ended the year-long lull at the box office
Roohi is the first major Bollywood release in theaters after they were shut down last March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last month, when the government allowed the cinema halls to function at full capacity, many films including 83, Prithviraj, Shamshera, Jersey, and many more secured release dates. Roohi was among the first few to get a release date.
