Rishi Kapoor's swansong 'Sharmaji Namkeen' to release this month
Late actor Rishi Kapoor's last film Sharmaji Namkeen finally has a release date. It is slated to hit Amazon Prime Video on March 31, a month ahead of his second death anniversary. Notably, since Kapoor was unable to complete the Hitesh Bhatia-directorial due to his illness and subsequent demise, veteran actor Paresh Rawal had stepped in to finish the portions.
Know about the cast and crew
Sharmaji Namkeen is probably one of the few Hindi films that feature two actors in the same role. Apart from Rawal and Kapoor, the family entertainer also stars Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Sheeba Chadha, Satish Kaushik, and Isha Talwar. It has been produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment in association with Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey of MacGuffin Pictures.
What did makers say about the film?
While talking of the film, Kapoor, and Rawal, makers said, "It is a truly special film and humble tribute to the acting prowess and cinematic brilliance of the late Rishi Kapoor and a testament to the immeasurable talent of Paresh Rawal." They described their venture as "a relatable and heartwarming story of self-realization and discovery" where a retired man discovers his love for cooking.
What did Rawal feel about this role?
About taking on the mantle from Kapoor, Rawal told Mid-day, "I was honored to step into his shoes, but I wish he could have finished the film." "People will love the movie. When I got the opportunity to play his role, I felt a sense of responsibility. On seeing his footage in the film, I knew I would have to work harder," he added.
These are Rawal and Kapoor's latest film appearances
Separately, Rawal recently made a comeback to Gujarati cinema after 30-40 years with Dear Father, which was well-received by all. It is based on a play written by him. On the other hand, Kapoor's last few appearances were in films like 102 Not Out (2018), alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Mulk (2018), Jhootha Kahin Ka (2019), and The Body (2019). He passed away in April 2020.
