'OTT platforms don't buy Kannada content': 'Kantara' actor Rishab Shetty
Rishab Shetty, who recently won the Best Actor award at the 70th National Film Awards, expressed his frustration over the lack of opportunities for Kannada films on OTT platforms. During a press conference, he stated that despite their success at film festivals, these movies struggle to find a platform for streaming. This has led him to reconsider his involvement in such projects.
'We don't get any recovery from such films'
Shetty said, "We premiere at festivals and win awards, but we do not get any platform for that. OTT platforms do not buy Kannada content, so we are forced to put it on YouTube channels. I am done with that. We don't get any recovery from such films." To note, in the last few years, the KGF franchise, Kantara, and 777 Charlie are among the select Kannada films that have gotten nationwide acclaim.
Shetty to see how future projects perform
Shetty mentioned that he has a few more projects in the pipeline, including Pedro and Vagachipani, which he produced. He said, "I produced them, because films gave me everything. I wanted to give something back to it. I think I am going to see how it goes in the future." This decision comes after evaluating the performance of his previous films.
Shetty credits 'Kantara' team for National Award win
Despite his individual achievement, Shetty was quick to credit the entire team of Kantara for his National Award win. He said, "I just do my work, but Kantara's win should go to every team member involved in it. I am just a face of it, but there were a lot of technicians who gave their best for the film." "I want to thank the people on their behalf." Shetty is currently working on a prequel to the movie.
