Renukaswamy murder: Judicial custody of Darshan extended till August 14
Kannada film superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa, arrested on June 11 in relation to the death of Chitradurga resident Renukaswamy, will remain in judicial custody until August 14. Per reports, the court ordered the extension due to the absence of a bail application from Thoogudeepa's lawyers and a request from investigation officials. They have asked for him to stay in custody until the chargesheet is filed.
Allegations against Thoogudeepa in Renukaswamy's death
Thoogudeepa is accused of masterminding the kidnapping and torture of Renukaswamy, who allegedly sent inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda, Thoogudeepa's alleged long-time partner. The victim, a fan of Thoogudeepa, reportedly urged Gowda not to interfere with the actor's marriage to Vijayalakshmi. According to allegations, Thoogudeepa directed his fans in Chitradurga to lure Renukaswamy to Bengaluru where he was tortured and later died from his injuries.
Investigation points to Thoogudeepa's involvement in the murder
During the investigation of an unidentified body, four men surrendered to the Kamakshipalaya Police, claiming responsibility for Renukaswamy's murder. However, their call logs indicated Thoogudeepa's involvement in the crime. This was further corroborated by CCTV footage showing his vehicle entering and exiting the shed where Renukaswamy was allegedly tortured. The police are expected to officially file a chargesheet by the end of August.
Thoogudeepa's wife prays for his release, actor sought prison comforts
Thoogudeepa's wife, Vijayalakshmi, has been visiting temples and performing special poojas praying for her husband's release from jail. On July 29, she visited Agrahara Jail of Parappa with holy prasad for Thoogudeepa. She was accompanied by his brother, Dinkar Thoogudeepa, and his son Vineesh Thoogudeepa. Meanwhile, the actor has petitioned the High Court seeking access to home-cooked food, clothes, and cutlery in prison after a Bengaluru court rejected his request on July 25.
