Renowned Bengali singer and songwriter, Pratul Mukhopadhyay, died on Saturday at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
He was known for his socially impactful songs like Ami Banglay Gan Gai and Dinga Bhashao Sagore.
The artist was suffering from pancreatic ailments and other age-related health issues at Kolkata's state-run SSKM Hospital where he breathed his last.

Mukhopadhyay's health deteriorated despite surgery
A senior official from the West Bengal Health Department said Mukhopadhyay's health didn't improve after surgery.
"His condition was not improving following a surgery and this morning he breathed his last," the official told PTI.
The singer was shifted to the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) after his health condition deteriorated just days before his demise.

CM Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over Mukhopadhyay's demise
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had visited the ailing singer at the hospital just days before his death, expressed her deep sorrow over his demise.
She extended her condolences to Mukhopadhyay's family and his countless fans. The singer is survived by his wife.
