A school dropout, Arunachalam Muruganantham belonged to a poor family but revolutionized menstrual hygiene in rural India when he invented a machine that makes low cost sanitary napkins. It all started when Muruganantham realized his wife used ragged clothes during periods. He decided to change it, but his journey was definitely not easy.
Small steps towards greatness
On digging deep, Arunachalam Muruganantham found out that only 12% women used sanitary napkins. When he went to buy one for his wife, its price shocked him. He realized he could make one at a much lesser price and sell it for just Rs. 4. He managed to convince 20 college students to volunteer for his pads, thus starting a revolution.

Impressed by his story, Twinkle Khanna got in touch with Arunachalam Muruganantham and dedicated one chapter to him in her book 'The Legend Of LaxmiPrasad'. Khanna started her production house 'Mrs. Funny Bones', roped in R. Balki for direction, and Akshay Kumar for the lead role. The presence of Akshay Kumar in the movie ensures the message will reach far.
Now, what critics are saying about 'PadMan'
The early reports of the movie have been amazing. Almost all the reviewers are in awe of Akshay's performance. The low point of the movie is, perhaps, its over-the-top filmy treatment. 'PadMan' has released in 2,750 screen in India, and 600 screens overseas. Trade pundits are hoping the movie would earn Rs. 15cr on the first day, and Rs. 50cr over the weekend.
