Why was Winslet suspected?
Netizens suspected Winslet as the actor Witherspoon had a falling out with, because of a speech given by Witherspoon at the 2007 BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards.
Fans thought this speech was in line with Witherspoon's recent revelation of losing a friend over an awkward speech.
However, there is no concrete evidence for this theory and both actors were seen sharing a warm moment at the 2016 Oscars.

Witherspoon's speech blunder: 'I roasted her'
In a PEOPLE interview, Witherspoon opened up about the speech that led to the fallout. She described the event as "British," "elegant," and "classy" - qualities she felt her speech lacked.

"But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her."
