'Red, White & Royal Blue' could become a trilogy!
Red, White & Royal Blue star Taylor Zakhar Perez has expressed his desire for the hit LGBTQ romantic comedy to expand into a trilogy. The 32-year-old actor shared his thoughts on the red carpet at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15 (Monday morning IST). A sequel to the film, which also features Nicholas Galitzine, is currently in development by Amazon MGM Studios.
Perez talks about potential sequel and trilogy
When asked if he anticipated a sequel during the filming of Red, White & Royal Blue, Perez told Variety, "I think I hoped." He further expressed his wish for the film to become a trilogy, saying, "I hope that there's three of them. I think there could be a nice trilogy." The actor also commented on the possibility of the film becoming a musical, saying, "That would be fun! As long as its funny. We need a very funny musical."
'Red, White & Royal Blue' sequel in the works
Amazon MGM Studios announced on May 10 that a sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue is in the works. The film's director and co-writer, Matthew Lopez, is teaming up with Casey McQuiston, the author of the 2019 source material, to write an all-new screenplay for the sequel. The first part was released in July 2023 and was a hit and received critical acclaim for its representation of queer romance. It's streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
