Box office: Vishal's 'Rathnam' mints over ₹4cr in two days
The Tamil action thriller Rathnam, starring Vishal in the titular role, experienced a minor decrease in its box office earnings on the second day of its release. According to Sacnilk, the film made ₹2cr domestically on its second day, bringing the total two-day collection to ₹4.30cr in India. The film had a strong opening day on Friday with earnings of ₹2.30cr. Here's a breakdown of the audience turnout.
Why does this story matter?
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Rathnam has achieved box office success worldwide with earnings nearing ₹5cr on Saturday across both Tamil and Telugu versions. The Tamil version reportedly outperformed the Telugu version due to the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections in Telugu-speaking regions. In Tamil Nadu alone, Rathnam amassed over ₹4cr in two days while the overall global collection is estimated at around ₹9cr over two days.
'Rathnam' recorded 17.22% overall occupancy on Saturday
On its second day, Rathnam recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 17.22%, with the highest turnout during the night shows at 23.26%. Afternoon shows followed closely with an 18.89% occupancy rate, reportedly. The Delhi and NCR regions reported the highest occupancy at 56.50%, while Pondicherry trailed at 29%. Helmed by Hari, the movie is jointly produced by Stone Bench Films, ZEE Studios, and Invenio Origin.
'Rathnam' tells the story of a henchman protecting a student
Hari's Rathnam features Priya Bhavani Shankar, Ramachandra Raju, Samuthirakani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Yogi Babu, Murali Sharma, Hareesh Peradi, Mohan Raman and Vijayakumar alongside Vishal in prominent roles. To note, Rathnam marks the third collaboration of Vishal and Hari after Thaamirabharani (2007) and Poojai (2014). The action extravaganza tells the story of Rathnam, a henchman for MLA Panneer Selvam in Vellore who protects Malliga, a medical student resembling Rathnam's deceased mother, from land encroachers.
