Rashmika Mandanna joins Salman Khan in 'Sikandar': Report
Salman Khan is gearing up for his next big-budget entertainer Sikandar, backed by his friend and leading producer Sajid Nadiadwala. Per a recent report by Pinkvilla, the makers have zeroed in on the female lead, locking Rashmika Mandanna's name. This marks her debut collaboration with the Bollywood superstar. The film, directed by AR Murugadoss, is scheduled for an Eid 2025 release.
The film needed a 'fresh pairing'
Shedding light on Mandanna, a source told Pinkvilla, "Sajid Nadiadwala was on the lookout for a fresh pairing as the script demands that at the writing level. He narrated the subject to Rashmika and the actress was excited by not just her part, but also the overall approach of AR Murugadoss and Sajid Nadiadwala to mount the film." Production is set to commence in June, with Mandanna playing a pivotal role in shaping the plot's conflict.
'Sikandar' will be shot in India and abroad
Mandanna will reportedly have an "author-backed role" and the film has a "strong story that results in an outflow of drama and emotions." Sikandar marks a reunion for Khan and Nadiadwala after their successful venture Kick in 2014, which remains Nadiadwala's only directorial project so far. Pre-production work, including location scouting, has already started. International filming is set to follow initial shoots in India, adding to the anticipation surrounding this eagerly awaited project.
'Sikandar' adds to Mandanna's impressive lineup, marks milestone for Khan
Riding high on the success of Animal, Mandanna has an impressive lineup of films including Pushpa 2, Chhava, and now Sikandar. For Khan, the film will be a significant milestone as it will be his 60th film release in the year he turns 60. This follows his tradition of notable releases during his 30th (Karan Arjun), 40th (No Entry), and 50th birthdays (Bajrangi Bhaijaan). Khan was last seen in Tiger 3 in 2023.
When will Khan work with age-appropriate actors?
While Mandanna-Khan's pairing might turn out to be a treat for his fans, the age difference between the two is shocking, but sadly a norm when it comes to Khan's films. Mandanna is 28, while Khan is 58, making him 30 years older than her. In Kisi Ka Bhai... he was paired opposite Pooja Hegde, who is 33. Among his recent co-stars, only Kareena Kapoor Khan and Katrina Kaif have been somewhat close to his age.
