Three-time Grammy Award winner Nelly arrested for rape
American Rapper Nelly has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in his tour bus after a concert near Seattle. He has denied the allegations. His lawyer described the charges as "completely fabricated". He is now out on bail. This isn't Nelly's first brush with the law. In 2015, he was arrested for felony after drugs and guns were found in his tour bus.
A brief glimpse at the rapper's career
Nelly, three-time Grammy winner, has delivered several US hits including "Hot in Herre", "Dilemma", "Shake Ya Tailfeather", "My Place" and "Over and Over". He also appeared in the film "The Longest Yard" (2005). It has been years since he last released new music.
What happened?
Nelly was performing at the White River Amphitheatre in Washington on October 6. At 3:48am the same night, cops received a woman's call who reported "she was sexually assaulted by a male, who is known as the rapper Nelly". The location of the crime was described as the tour bus parked at the listed location. Soon after, the rapper was arrested.
What does Nelly have to say?
The 42-year-old father of two has denied the accusations and apologized for "putting myself in a situation where I could be victimized". According to his lawyer, the allegations are "devoid of credibility and motivated by greed and vindictiveness". "Nelly is prepared to address and pursue all legal avenues to redress any damage caused by this clearly false allegation," lawyer Scott Rosenblum said.
